He Signed His Death Certificate
Someone asks a question after finding that his fiancée whom he is expected to be married to in 3 weeks time was caught having sexual intercourse with his best friend that “shall I still continue with the wedding?”.
One of my friends, a grammarian, Mr. Ojelade Kayode (aka Baba Kay)'s was kept aback at such a question, saying that, events have shown what the man ought to do, but he, Baba Kay, yet hide his anger by replying like that.
Well some according to Yoruba elders adage could be termed, "amọ̀ràn bini Ọ̀yọ́, o wipe ẹ̀ nlọ ni tabi ẹ̀ mbọ̀?" translation, someone who knows something but yet asked questions about what she or he knows like the Oyo people, saying are you going or are you returning/coming back (Note: Ọ̀yọ́ is one of the ancient towns in the South Western states of Nigeria, predominantly Yoruba speaking town). What I mean by this proverb is that some would know what they ought to do but would still want to ask.
Based on this man's question do I want to share this story, it happened many years ago in Rino town.
There was a young promising man called Temo, who went and took to wife a woman from his village as wife, that was the common thing then, because Rino town's indigenes were predominantly Idol worshippers and because this man did not want to marry an idol worshipper, he returned to his village called Dune to get to wife a young lady. The name of this young lady was Letey.
After paying all the necessary things on the lady, I mean the dowry and other stuffs, the lady moved with her hubby to Rino town and started living there as a married woman.
Temo happened to be a driver and was working with Rino's government then. After their honey moon, he resumed work fully as the driver in the office driving his masters around. And sometimes they would travel outside the town.
One day they travelled outside the town, and that was when Letey, Temo’s wife, who has been pregnant for him started having illicit affairs with her hubby's immediate junior brother, called Retev. Temo did not know that out of all the children that his wife had under his roof, only one of them is his child, others are not his children, the woman’s egg were fertilized by different sperms but not his sperm. The woman, Letey gave birth to five children in all under the roof of the man.
Letey and Retev had been having illicit affairs for long before their secret was revealed unto Temo. When Temo got to know this he took the matter to his family but there was nothing that could be done on the issue.
After many days that the issue has been undergoing serious debate among their family, that was when the Letey confessed that four out of the five children she had under the roof of the man are not the man’s children, they are children of other people she was having affairs with. It is the first child alone that belongs to Temo, she said.
This grieved the man greatly. He told them that he does not want to see the woman again.
The family member arose to the situation and pleaded with him to accept his wife back, for such do happen in their community.
Temo however refused but after much pressure, he consented and told them that he will no longer have sexual intercourse with his wife, Letey again.
Accepting the woman happened to be the man’s greatest undoing, because after the woman moved back into the house and she has discovered the position of her hubby, she consulted the powerful ones who helped her to attack the man. This man had an accident with his car and his legs were broken.
The man couldn’t drive again and he was laid off after a while from his work place.
The man learnt a trade just to be keeping ends meet, but the woman had no pity on the man as she was not preparing foods for him again. She poisoned the man, and the man develop serious illness which he never recovered from until he gave up the ghost after spending all that he had on the illness.
The woman never stopped having illicit affairs with those men she was having affairs with.
It was a sorry case.
Hearing or reading incidents like this makes a heart that wants to learn, learn and change.
Do not sign your death certificate yourself. What you can avoid, what you can flee from, flee from such thing.
