Lovers Story: Brother Samson and Sister Debbie 2
Ejireh contacted the man and he said there is no problem that he should bring the person to him. Ejireh and brother Samson when to the man who was happy to see them but surprised that a graduate could think along that line.
He told them that the world is changing, computer is fast taking over everything and the old cassette would soon be out of place as all the modern actors, actresses and artists are now putting their works in discs. He thence advised him that if he wants to go into this same business that he is in to, he should consider getting discs rather than cassettes because it is the in thing now. He added that he should not allow any customer to push him into buying cassettes under any guise, because customers are pushy and dubious. They will tell you to get something for them promising that they will soon come for the thing but another seconds after saying that they will go to another business center to go and buy the thing, some would in fact not buy the thing again because since they cannot get the thing that they want immediately, they will abandon it, and when you tell them that you have gotten the product they will tell you that they have used the money for another thing. If you are going to buy any cassette at all, let it be about one to two percent of the goods that you have purchased, this is because if everything changes, he is the one who will bear the loss. And considering that he just wants to start the business, he cannot but offer him this candid advice so that his business will not pack up sooner than starting.
“Do not allow any customer to pressurize you into going to buy something for him or her under the guise that I will come back for it. Anyone who says that, get such a one to commit himself or herself by depositing a token, paying part of the money for the goods”, he emphasized. “We need educated people like you coming into the business sector,” the man adds this to his words of advice to brother Samson.
Ejireh and brother Samson was happy for his professorial counsel. The man then told Samson to check back that he will show him the needful things to buy into the shop, some ancient records that are yet on cassette that is evergreen in Polyglot Island which he would not regret stocking. After showing him those albums, he will take him to some suppliers within and without Polyglot Island.
After meeting with the man, Ejireh counseled brother Samson that it will be better if he can learn one or two things from the man even if for a month because he is venturing into a completely new terrain, it is neither marketing strategies nor how to lead prayers (they both laughed when he said this), Ejireh told him that he needs to know one or two things about the business before starting, for doing this will give him a sound footing, a good foundation for the business and when the business eventually turns around becoming big, “because I am sure it will become big soon, because the bible says God will bless the works of our hands, and if he will bless the works of our hands, if he will make the hand of the diligent strong, we shouldn’t think less of this business but we should see it as a lifelong business a business which shall become big and would join the class of the employers of labour within a limited frame of time according to God’s wish”, Ejireh said, adding that “I do not want you to limit it to what you have learnt in the four walls of the university neither those marketing experiences that you have gathered while working with Majemamu ventures learn one or two things from him too since he has shown openness to us today, no experience is wasted”, he concluded.
Brother Samson appreciated brother Ejireh and decided that he will work with the man as an apprentice for at least two or three months for that he will add to the knowledge that he already has and have a solid foundation for the business.
Mutual Relationship
When Brother Samson got to the man, who is known as Mr. Bintinlaiye, he was surprised to see him saying he was thinking it would take him a while before he checked on him. Brother Samson told him that “procrastination is the thief of time”, so the adage says, any attempt by him to delay further would not augur well because time is fast going, time waits for no one he said.
“That is good of you”, Mr. Bintinlaiye said, and offered him a seat in his shop.
Brother Samson told him that he has a request to however ask of him. Mr. Bintinlaiye said he would be glad to grant him the request if such is in his capacity that he should let him know what the request is. Samson told him that he was not here that day to know about some ever-green albums alone but he actually wants to work with him for about two months to have full grasp of how to interact with customers.
Mr. Bintinlaiye was elated to hear what his petition was and said that is good of him because everyone of us at a time or another in life requires tutorship. “As you will learn ancient things from me, I am also sure that I will learn something from you, I will learn about computer from you, because I have been told that many of the universities’ works are now computerized. If I will also be relevant in this business in five years from now, I need computer knowledge to keep going”, he conclusively said.
That is how Brother Samson started to work with Mr. Bintinlaiye and they were interchanging knowledge among themselves. Their relationship is a mutual one, but not parasitic one. Before Samson finishes his apprenticeship with Mr. Bintinlaiye, Mr. Bintinlaiye has learnt how to use computer for his works while Samson has also gained experiences, how to market the old cassettes, and has been introduced to some suppliers that come to the Island.
On the last day of his apprenticeship with Mr. Bintinlaiye, he gave Samson rough estimates of what he needs to start the business. Five kinds of budget were given to him to choose from and promised to be rendering little assistance like selling some old cassettes and other new products to him on credit till his business stands.
The five classes of budget given him was the cost to start the business on the high side, average side, low class, lower and lowest levels.
He appreciated him and leave his place.
Making A Choice
When he got home, he looked at the list given him and the amount to start off in each of the levels and discovered that the money on him can start off at the lowest level without asking for assistance from anyone and if he would ask of any assistance at all it would be a minimal one. Apart from that if he starts like this, he would still have some money on him to maintain himself for about 16 months and he hopes that on or before then, his business would have start to yield some dividends. Having weighed the pros and cons of it he decided to go for the lowest level. He got for himself a shop at a very good location, thought a bit costlier than the budgeted money for which he hopes to get shop, but he was told by some who know business although not into the kind of business he was venturing into that the location he got for his business could go for anything and that by the time people start knowing the place and patronizing him he would thank God and them for putting their mouth in ensuring that he secures the shop to start the business from. He was grateful to them for their counsels and told them that he really prays that will be true.
After paying for the shop, he told his father that he would need to carpenter who will make racks for him in his newly gotten shop where he will be hanging his cassettes and discs. His father replied that one of his friends Mr. Kafin promised to pay him a visit that day, that he is a carpenter he will help him get a suitable person to do the job.
It was not long after this that father and son heard a knock on their door, when they asked of who it was, it was Mr. Kafin who was knocking. The door was opened for him by Samson.
After exchanging pleasantries, his father told his friend that his son would need his assistance, he wants to make racks into the shop he has just rent, where he would be hanging albums, cassettes, discs for display to the customers.
Mr. Kafin commended him for taking such a step, because some graduates like him would not think about that, all they will be doing is waiting at their parents’ home till they secure jobs. After saying this, he said he is still handling hammer, and will do the job for him. Samson told the man, Mr. Kafin that he was not expecting him to do the job for him but that he told him because he was thinking he would help him call one of his trainees or introduce him to someone who is good to do the job for him. But Mr. Kafin said it is a small job and he can handle it.
After a brief argument, his father, Adurayomi told him that he should allow his friend to do the work for him. They agreed that the man, Mr. Kafin, should do the work for Samson.
Brother Samson asked him to tell him what the estimate of the money would be to buy the planks. Mr. Kafin asked Samson if he could know the length of the shop for that would determine the length of the planks he would buy and how he will calculate it.
Samson looked around his father’s living room where they were talking, and told the man that the shop’s length is more that his father’s living room, about twice the length of the living room, but what he wants the man to do for him is to divide the length into two, making it like the length and breadth of the living room that they are sited in, he started to look up to count the numbers of the asbestos, as he was doing this, the man said, the length and breadth if it will be like this living room it will be 12 feet by 12 feet.
That will be okay for me, he replied the man, saying that the remaining portion of the shop he will like to carve it out and turn it into a store.
If that would be the case, Mr. kafin replied, you will need to buy plywood too, because it is plywood that we shall use to carve out the portion of the store that you talk about.
Samson said that would be very well with him and asked the man to give him the rough estimate of what would be required to buy the planks and the plywood that would be needed for the work.
The man started calculating the planks, plywood, hinges, iron nails and other materials that he will use for the work, he valued the costs without writing it down, within seconds he got the total estimate and told him what the cost of everything was, saying that “if there would be additions it cannot be more than 2 percent, but I am sure there won’t be additions because I purchased planks and related materials from the place mostly recently”, he enthused.
“Well that is wonderful”, Adurayomi said while Samson after hearing what the estimate was entered his room counted the money get back to the living room and he gave the man the money to buy the necessary things as stated which would be used for the racks and carving out a portion of the shop that would be used as store including the transport money since they do not have car that they will take to sawmill to carry the planks. Even if they have car, Mr. Kafin said it is better to use commercial truck to carry the planks because of the length of the planks. As an expert in the line, they could not argue with the man.
After he collected the money the man played with his friend, Pa. Adurayomi, Samson’s father, for a while before asking to take his leave, telling his friend that he needs to set the ball in motion by going to the sawmill to go and book for the planks and plywood for if he delays any further, it may not augur well because some of the materials may need to be smoothened by machine, and that need to be done today so that early morning the following day, he will just get there pack the materials into the hired commercial truck to carry it to Samson’s shop, and the work would be set in motion early in the morning. And before 15:00 hours local time he should be through with the work, but in case he couldn’t finish then, what would be left would be a limited one.
Pa. Adurayomi told his friend that, that is good, and he said to him that he should ensure that he finishes the work the very day he starts and he shouldn’t make it a two-day work.
Mr. Kafin replied his friend that he will work towards that and told Samson that he needs to get to the place very early in the morning so that the work would start very early.
Samson asked Mr. Kafin when the sawmill used to open for business because that would essentially determine when he will get the planks from the place to his shop.
Mr Kafin told him that sawmill used to open 09:00 hours but he will have to implore them if they can come early, so that he will get the planks early to carry it to his shop. Moreso, to balance all equations he promised to talk to the commercial truck driver ahead that he wants him to come early, so that there won’t be loopholes from any angle.
Samson and Pa. Adurayomi were glad about this plan, and Samson promised that he will get to the place as early 08:00 hours. Mr. Kafin said that will be good, even if he will not get to his place around that time, he would be few minutes away from his place. “Man proposes, God disposes let us all pray that all works together as we have planned”, Mr. kafin said as he stood up to leave.
They were all happy with this arrangement as Mr. kafin heads for the door of the living room and Pa. Adurayomi his friend saw him off a while and bid him bye.
The following day, Mr. Kafin arrived 08:15 hours, few minutes after Samson has opened the shop, and they offload the materials from the truck with the driver as the driver took off.
Mr. Kafin started the work immediately and was able to complete the work with the assistance of Samson that day.
After carpenter has finished its portion, he called Ejireh his prayer team member who also told him that he knows how to paint to come and paint the shop. The shop was painted with a blue colour, while the outside was painted in white. After painters have finished their work on the shop, he contacted the sign-writer (artists) to make a signboard on which the name of his business was clearly inscribed, the name of his business center is “Irorun Business Center, Polyglot Island”.
Brethren’s Reaction
Friends, brethren in his prayer team, Pastor of his church, Global Bible Church, and some elders of the church were happy with this development and they keep on greeting him and praying for him that within a short time the business would hit it big in the Polyglot Island.
His prayer team members as led by brother Johahana came there to lift the shop to the hands of the Lord, Yahweh. After the Sunday service after all the works within the shop has been completed, before brother Samson bought some goods into the shop, Pastor Iyanu of Global Bible Church, came with some of the elders to dedicate and sanctify the shop, as they say whatever we do, we must do everything in the name of the Lord. This is how the business started.
Experience After Leaving His Parent’s House
A year after Samson started his business, he left his parent’s house to go and rent a room for himself outside. The room he first rented was bad and the agent who got the room for him lied unto him to renting the room.
Four days after he packed into the room, rain fell, and he discovered that the center portion of the room was leaving and rain was falling into the room as if there is no roofing sheet on top of the building. Assuming the rain fell during the time he was at the working place he would have entered his room to see lake of water with all his materials destroyed because he was yet to get any cupboard into which he keeps his things, he just kept them on the carpet on the floor.
When the rain started to fall, and he saw the leak portion he put a plastic bucket there into which the rain was falling. Because the rain was heavy that day, he emptied his bucket thrice before the rain stopped and he was able to lay his body on the bed. The following day he went to the agent to complain to him of what happened the agent begged him not to be annoyed saying he thought the landlord has repaired the portion and promised that they will do something on it that day.
In the meanwhile before he left the house that day he has put bucket at the spot that was leaking, saying “we are in the raining period, rain could start anytime, no one could say it shouldn’t rain for if it does not rain how would farmers work, how would we have foods in the market and on our tables?” he placed the bucket there but was actually praying within him that he would not rain much so that the agent has told him that something would be done about it that day.
That day passed the neither was there any repairs made to the house nor did the agent talk about the incident again.
It thus became a regular thing for Samson to be putting bucket at the spot while going out.
He asked from people to know the person who owns the house and on getting the person who owned the house he lodged complaints to him about the situation of the house, saying he would not know may be the agent has not told him about the pitiable condition of the room maybe that was why the landlord has not come to repair the room.
The landlord told him that the agent did complain about the room and that the carpenter he was using traveled to monoglot island and he is yet to return that that was why the room has not been repaired.
Samson was not happy to hear this and told the man to please do something about the place because rain would still fall for about 5 months before it stopped. The landlord promised that immediately his carpenter returns something shall be done about the work.
Samson believed the man and started praying that the carpenter arrives soon, but in the meanwhile, he has removed all his vital documents from his room to his shop where rain cannot get to and kept it in a safe that neither rodents nor ants can destroy.
When the situation of the room remained the same without changes to the room, despite repeated complaints made to the agent as well as the landlord, Samson decided to leave the room after the end of the third month, because his mind was not settled and coupled with the climatic reports that there would be heavy rain in the Polyglot Island that he year, he sees his continue to live in the room as putting a fire on the roof top and going to bed.
