Some Prayer Points From The Book of Zechariah
Writer’s Foreword
A singular verse or more in few instances, is (are) used in each of the fourteen chapters that make up this book out of which the prayers are drawn out from as the Spirit imprints it in my heart, and I know I have Holy Spirit in me.
The quoted verse (or verses) are clearly shown in bold and italics immediately after writing that some prayers from the chapter to allow each person to read it. This is followed by some explanations on those verses, that would enhance the understanding of the reader and brethren of what to be prayed about.
These simple and straightforward explanations are titled, “Pre-Prayer Tonic, Pre-Prayer Nuggets” etc. after these are the prayer points listed out which are also given different titles like, “Prayer Bullets, Prayer Swords”, etc. These are sincerely designed to add live to what the reader is reading as well as ensuring that the person who wants to offer the prayer to know that Prayer is a serious business and lazy people cannot successfully pass through the school of prayer.
The disciples did not know this before Jesus Christ’s departure, or maybe they know but they were yet resting on Jesus shoulders, being carried by Jesus as parents carry their children on their shoulders, but after Jesus departure when they were alone and they couldn’t go back to the scribes, Sadducees and the leaders of their time because of what they had known, they accept the responsibility of going to the school of prayer and that was when they were able to make appreciable changes during their days on earth, the effects of which we still feel today.
You may also have been viewing Prayer as a child’s play before and or as a lazy man’s means of navigating some issues, but I want to tell you that you are mistaken, because prayer is not meant for people who are lazy.
I want you to know that the explanations given on each verse (or verses) are related to other verses that make up the chapter and the entire books that make up the bible for lines must be upon lines and precepts upon precepts, here a little, there a little.
“For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little” (Isa. 28:10)
Each person praying to the Most High God needs to know that it is God’s prerogative to answer prayers, it is however our duties to pray unto the Lord. Therefore, do not relent in praying to your heavenly father, Jesus.
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” (Matt. 6:6)
“The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.” (Psa. 34:15)
“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” (Isa. 65:24)
It would be of interest to you knowing that this write up does not talk about the means of prayer, methods of prayer, types of prayer etc. it just lists out some prayer points which expectedly the reader could add to as he or she wishes in combination with some of the prayer points listed here that could be used to commune with our heavenly father, who has called for us, his children to pray unto him.
The name which should be used in talking to our heavenly father has been stated in unmistaken terms by Jesus Christ in the Holy Writ before his departure, and the name is Jesus Christ. This the apostles subscribed to and used throughout their sojourn on earth which makes their ministry a successful and a thriving one. While using this wonderful name, they handed the same over to their followers through which we all got the message of the good news today.
Jesus Christ has not asked for some modifications to the name, neither has his disciples. It is however appalling today to hear people say and talk to their followers of the need to add some modifications to this fearful and terrible name to the kingdom of the devil as the name is not potent enough.
Many a one does this because they have not been totally delivered from their former ways, which is the way of the heathens and because they have not outrightly been delivered, they have been using some means to improve on the name like what they learnt in the world were before coming into Jesus fold. By their actions sometimes we doubt the authenticity of their salvation because someone who could be saved by simple means of faith in unseen Person would not find it hard relying in the simplicity of the name of Jesus to access the throne of his father and my father: Jesus.
Some add modifications to the name because they want to carve a niche for themselves in the hearts of their followers, they want to be known and associated with something like the heathens do carve niche for themselves in the hearts of their followers.
Others base their formats of modifications on what they read from the scriptures that God calls himself the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But how many of those people today have we heard that God himself calls himself their God? Outside that, we need know that we are in a new dispensation and generation, and new generation, New Testament is singularly based on Jesus Christ, New Testament revolves round Jesus and Jesus alone.
Many of those modifications which are being added today bring divisions and hatred amongst the brethren, and that is why we find it hard these days to make appreciable penetrations into the camps of the enemies let alone overcoming them.
I have been thinking that it was the disciples, Apostles Peter, John, Paul and so on who ought to be fighting for such recognitions, they are those who ought to be wanting their names to be used to access the throne of God but they never did that, because they didn’t lose focus, neither did their followers did that too, because they know the world passes away and the lusts thereof.
We have however been subsumed in the pursuits of worldly fame today such that we find it hard to know or sincerely vouch for anyone as heading for the Kingdom of heaven.
I will want to implore you that if you will be using this article or the wordings there for prayer as well as your praying wherever you are you should be using the name above all names as your only name to pray unto your father and my father, and the name is Jesus Christ, not his titles neither any of the “gods of some people’s names”.
“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
“If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” (Joh. 14:13-14)
“And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
“Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” (Joh. 16:23-24)
It is imperative that we pray with understanding as well as pray correctly so that our prayers be expressly answered by God.
He has promised to answer our prayers as a father (parents) answers his (their) children requests, therefore, have confidence in him that he will answer your prayers in Jesus name. Amen.
General Overview of The Book
Zechariah, The Young Prophet
Chuck Swindoll in his overview of the book of Zechariah says, Zechariah was the grandson of Priest Iddo, who prophesied to the people of Judah after their return from exile in Babylon. (Zec. 1:1; 12:1, 4, 16) He and his grandfather were among the first group allowed to return to Israel in 538 BC under the decree of Cyrus the king of Persia. Due to his family lineage, he was a priest as well as being a prophet. Because of his lineage he has had priesthood knowledge though born in servitude.
He came into the office of the prophet early (Zec. 2:4) and his life would have extended till the reign of Xerxes I (485-465 BC), the king who made Esther his queen (Est. 1:1)
Date
Zechariah’s prophesies have in it tone of encouragement to the struggling Israelites unlike Haggai whose message is a cautionary one. His visions in chapters 1-8 could have been written around October to November 520 BC during the time Haggai too was prophesying. After this he presumable received eight visions around February 15th, 519 BC (Zec. 1:7), four messages followed on December 7th, 518 BC (Zec. 7:1). The date for his messages in chapters 9-11 were not clear, however the mention of Greece (Zec. 9:13) indicates that those prophesies came later in his life, perhaps around 480 BC, before Ezra (458 BC) and Nehemiah (444 BC) arrived to revivify the Jews.
Importance of This Book
Among the minor prophets’ documentations, his prophesies contain the largest numbers of messages on the messiah, therefore it would not be out the way to say this book is akin to the book of Isaiah. He shows Christ’s first coming (Zec. 9:9), second coming (Zec. 9:10 – 10:12) as a savior, a judge, a righteous King.
His Name
Zechariah, (זכריהוּ זכריה), written as zekaryâh zekaryâhû (with this phonetic spelling zek-ar-yaw', zek-ar-yaw'-hoo) which means Jah (Yahweh) has remembered. The meaning of his name itself shows how magnificent God is, for he never forgets his own people, though they will be punished for their sins because his eyes cannot behold iniquity, yet he will remember them in their low estate and bring them back unto himself.
His words as contained in eight visions (Zec. 1:1 – 6:15); four messages (Zec. 7:1 – 8:23) and two oracles (Zec. 9: 1 – 14:21) capture the immediate and the future events.
Simple Lessons From The Book
The book is full of reassuring words to those who are hopeless, those who have been struggling with life issues. The world is full of ups and downs and we sometimes get to our lowest ebbs such that we wouldn’t have hope in ourselves neither in our future but reading through this book we shall find new hope for our existing, for our being in Christ.
William Orr in his book, Thirty-Nine Keys to Old Testament says 50,000 were those who returned first. Haggai in his prophesies focused on the religious lifestyle of the people while Zechariah incorporated political lifestyle into his messages. Except the book of Psalms, it has more messages in relation to the crucifixion of Jesus than other Old Testament books. Using the Jews as a template, the book shows the heart of God for men, he is compassionate to us.
Prayer From Zechariah Chapter 1
"God reassured the angel -messenger- good words, comforting words" (Zec. 1:13 Message Bible)
King James Version reads,
“And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.” (Zec. 1:13)
Pre-Prayer Tonic
The word of reassurance came from the Lord through his angel to the people whom the prophet is a conduit for that he should tell them what was in his mind for them. Yea, he has used nations and people to punish them for their errors and sins, but now, he is compassionate, and he is sending him to them with words of comfort.
Cambridge bible for schools and colleges says, this may mean that Yahweh answers, (ענה), ‛ânâh (aw-naw') which means begins to speak, announce, reply the intercession of the angel by the word he heard or by import from the angel’s interaction with him.

Prayer From Zechariah Chapter 2
“And I'll be right there with her -God's decree- a wall of fire around unwalled Jerusalem and a radiant presence within”- (Zec. 2:5 (Message Bible))
King James Version
“For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.” (Zec. 2:5)
Pre-Prayer Nuggets
John Gill says this about this verse God would be the wall of fire round her as the mountains surround Jerusalem such that they would need no other wall to encompass them again. Our God is a consuming fire and in many respects in the bible has he shown himself to be dreaded, he has shown himself as fire that surrounded the people when the left Egypt, he used chariots of fire to surround prophet Elisha against the enemies (2Ki 6:17). Taking these into our hearts we shall see that God is not bluffing by the promise he made here that he will be a fire that would surround the people and the country here.
Pulpit bible commentary says God is emphatically saying that he will be their protection, defending them as well as consuming their enemies. This consuming act would make his glory the more outstanding to the outsiders as well as the insiders as it did happen when he killed the first born in Egypt and drown the enemies in the sea.
Matthew Henry in his commentary says that God here in is saying that the church would be without barriers, God is making provision for people from far and near to come into the Gospel, that is why he will be a fire as the wall and would become their glory inside of her.
When anyone gives his life to Jesus, he will be enemies to their enemies and would continually bring glory, ((כּבד כּבוד), kâbôd kâbôd (pronounced as kaw-bode', kaw-bode') meaning splendor, copiousness, honor) unto the person. In other words, the person would neither be afraid for terror by night nor arrows by day and above all he would receive abundancies of God’s blessings in all ramifications.

Prayer From Zechariah Chapter 3
"Next, the messenger-Angel showed me the high priest Joshua. He was standing before God's angel where the Accuser showed up to accuse him"- (Zec. 3:1 (Message Bible.))
King James Translation says,
“And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.” (Zec. 3:1)
Pre-Prayer Simple Words
Jamieson-Fausset-Brown in his commentary says, this is the fourth vision that Zechariah sees, an astounding thing did he see as concerning their high priest, Joshua. (Hag. 1:1). It is said that this high priest means Jerusalem, or the people of God.
Mathew Henry says, one of the greatest discouragements when we go before the Lord are guilt and corruption. Our nature has made us a corrupt entity before him, while the guilt of sins in our hearts keep pulling us back from the holy God.
The Hebrew word use for resist here is “שׂטן”, śâṭan, (pronounced as saw-tan') which is the same word used for Satan in the verse, and it means attack, accuse, resist, adversary.
We need to know that irrespective of our position, irrespective of our location, Satan is still our adversary. Sometimes he does come against us before the Lord not because of the sins we have committed as it did happen unto Job (Job 1:7; 2:2). It has been his major work to come in opposition to the people of God, the opposition would be worst when there are impurities and guilts in our hearts therefore, we need to ensure to always be right with him always.
Some people who have just gotten saved often times feel this when they want to approach the throne of grace, for their minds would repeatedly be taken to the past by the enemies and devil because they desire to draw the person back, but the blood of Jesus has atone for the past sins of such a person and all that is requested of the person is to continue to be in the Lord, for old things are passed away and all things are become new, so says the great apostle. (2 Cor. 5:17)
Some Prayer Missiles
1. By your Power oh Lord, move me to the next phase of glory in Jesus name,
2. By your grace oh Lord, move me to the next section of breakthrough in Jesus name,
3. By your anointing oh Lord, move me to the next column of success in Jesus name,
4. When a person does not move to his or her next phase or stage inn life, it supposedly means that the person is static, therefore cry out at the top of your voice, Oh Lord, break the chains of stagnancy that have tied me to a position now in Jesus name,
5. Say this in a very clear terms, every demons of stagnation operating over my life, career, ministry go into everlasting bondage in Jesus name,
6. I refuse stagnation as from today, so, demons of stagnation get out of my life in Jesus name,
7. In all areas (if you know any, you may mention it or them, being specific) whence I have been experiencing stagnation, I decree movement into those areas now in Jesus name,
8. Oh Lord, every cog in the wheel of my progress, remove them now in Jesus name,
Note: Many if not all the discoveries in this world is by revelation, electricity which I see as the father of all developments came out through revelation, and likewise many other things. Having this at the back of our minds, let us pray the followings:
8. Oh Lord, reveal unto me deeper things about my life in Jesus name,
9. Oh Lord, as one of your children, reveal unto me the secret things of the forthcoming year unto me,
10. Oh Lord, move me to a position where I shall receive uncommon revelations in Jesus name,
11. When one has or receives or gets common things, the person would not be outstanding in what one does, one would not exceed others, but when someone receives an uncommon revelation, then one becomes outstanding, one exceeds one’s peers etc. This will therefore ginger us to say this loud and clear, Oh Lord, I receive of you Power to receive an uncommon revelation as from now in Jesus name,
12. When one receives a specific revelation, one would have focus in life, but someone who has not received a specific revelation would end up trying so many things, this word will be true of such a person, "Jack of all trade, master of none". So that this kind of word would not be uttered unto us, you and I need to stand to our feet to say,
Oh Lord, I receive a specific revelation from You about my health, business, career, children, husband, wife etc in Jesus name,
13. Many people have failed in life because they are basking in the revelation/s of someone else, so many marriages have collapsed because they anchor their marriages etc on someone else's revelation. In the light of this, you and I shall say, I refuse to walk in someone else's revelation oh Lord, give me my own specific revelation in the name of Jesus,
14. When force men are in training, they would be trained on how to shoot to hit target, for you and I to hit target, we need specific revelation. In this book, we see that this prophet saw specific thing. Based on this, why wont you and I say this,
Oh Lord, the grace to receive specific thing, instruction, vision etc about my life, let me receive such grace now in Jesus Christ name.
15. Say this as best as you can, Oh Lord, the demons that do not value your presence in my life/ministry etc let them catch fire in Jesus name,
16. Haven't you take note of this that that Accuser did undermine God's presence so to say, and this was why he had the audacity to follow Joshua to God's presence.
Shall we say this in faith, Oh Lord, arrest every demon undermining your presence in my family, on my wife/hubby, in my business, career, ministry etc in Jesus name,
16. Let the demons regret the audacity it (they) have following me to your presence in Jesus name,
17. Bible says, Satan is the Accuser of Brethren (Believers), therefore let us say that, Oh Lord, do not allow my accusers to get or come before you in Jesus name,
18. Oh Lord, silence my accusers in Jesus name,
19. Oh Lord send all my accusers into state of oblivion on my matter/plight in Jesus name,
20. Oh Lord, do not recognise my accusers in Jesus name (I hope you remember that prophet Moses asked God not to recognise Korah, Dathan etc in the book of Numbers), therefore we ought to also be serious with this Prayer, oh Lord, as from henceforth, do not recognise my accusers again in Jesus name.

Prayer From Zechariah Chapter 4
A. Zechariah 4:1
"The messenger -Angel- again called me to attention. It was like being wakened out of sleep"- (Zec. 4:1 (Message Bible))
King James Version says,
“And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep,” (Zec. 4:1)
Pre-Prayer Talk
The angel talking with him before may have left him temporarily to ruminate over the earlier vision. After leaving for a while he returned with another vision for the man of God who has fallen asleep from the thoughts of what he has seen and he waked him out of his sleep, to behold another vision which is the fifth one.
Apostle Paul talks about the time that we are in that it is a time that we also need to be waken out of our slumber and sleep, because the time draws nigh more than ever. (Rom. 13:11-12) To be waken out of our spiritual sleep that is why God has put in place the people who will be instructing us in the ways of the Lord through several means, and it is us, who should arise from our sleep, we shouldn’t fall back to sleep again, for assuming this prophet after being touched to wake up from his sleep decided to fall asleep again or whether his eyes be too heavy (Mat. 26:43) like the apostles when Jesus took them to Gethsemane, there would practically be nothing that the angel could do again, because Our God wouldn’t force anyone, neither would his angels force anyone.
It is certain that when God wants us to see something, he will call our attentions to the thing, even if we are asleep, he as a means of waking us up to behold what he wants us to see.
Some Prayer Missiles
1. Oh Lord, call me to attention of what or those things I need to do or start doing to move out of my present ignominious position in Jesus name,
2. Oh Lord, call me to attention of what I ought to start doing to forge ahead in life in Jesus name,
3. Oh Lord, call me to attention of what I ought to be doing to make outstanding breakthrough in life in Jesus name,
4. When Joseph was called to attention of the gift in him, he started using that gift and via that he made the most desired for breakthrough in life, therefore let us say this word of prayer,
Oh Lord, call me to attention of that deposits in me, that gift/s in me so that I will be practising it/them in Jesus name
(It is no gain saying that, some have more than one gift, Joseph, Daniel etc had more than one gift and it was when they started paying attention to these gifts that they exceed others)
5. Shall we say this loud and clear? Oh Lord, wake me (my business/career/marriage/etc) out of the sleep of sin in Jesus name,
6. Oh Lord wake me out of the sleep of poverty/lack/sicknesses/setbacks etc in Jesus name,
7. Every power oppressing me which usually forces me to sleep an unprogressively sleep, oh Lord arrest those powers in Jesus name,
B. Zechariah 4:14
"Then said he, these are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth"-Message Bible.
“Then said he, these are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.” (KJV)
(Oil is used to anoint and by saying the anointed ones here it means those on whom oils have been poured on for an assignment, special assignment for the Lord. David Guzik while adding to his words on this verse says God often calls two people to work together for him, as he calls Paul and Barnabas, Prophet Moses and Aaron and so on. When two people work together with a purpose, they make appreciable impacts and breakthroughs. Husbands and wives with the same focus, with the same believe in Jesus Christ, could also be viewed as being anointed for special purpose on the earth and one of the chief purposes of their coming together in faith as husbands and wives is to raise a Godly home for Jesus on the planet called earth. They have been spiritually anointed since they are in the same faith, in the same Lord, in Jesus Christ, they are covenantal anointed because they have known each other without shame (Gen. 2:25). It does not matter the tribe, race or culture from which they have come from before coming together as one, but having come together as one (hubby and wife) in the Lord, they have received anointing to function together to pull down the works of the flesh and this they need to do, they do not have to allow any form of separation to come into their midst if they really want to fulfill God’s plans for them on the earth. I need to add that some bible scholars however believe the anointed ones here is talking about Joshua and Zerubbabel.)
8. Oh Lord make me one of your special candidates in Jesus name,
9. Oh Lord let me be one of the anointed ones of yours in Jesus name,
10. Oh Lord give me access to your presence in Jesus name,
11. Prophet Abraham while communing with God in the book of Genesis said this of Ishmael, "O that Ishmael might live before thee!" (Gen. 17:18)
We shall also say, Oh Lord let my career/hubby/wife/business/ministry etc be ever before you in Jesus name,
12. My anointed companion for progress oh Lord direct me to him or her in Jesus name,
13. It is time, bring me and my anointed companion together oh Lord in Jesus name,
14. Etc
Prayer From Zechariah Chapter 5
"And I life up mine eyes, and see, and lo, two women are coming forth, and wind in their wings; and they have wings like wings of the stork, and they lift up the ephah between the earth and the heavens" (Zec. 5:9 (Young Literal Translation))
“Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.” (Zec. 5:9 (KJV))
Pre-Prayer Nuggets
Wings are special features that the Lord has given birds for movement, special features that make them move rapidly. No bird could be compared with any terrestrial animals in movement because of this feature. However, apart from this, Zechariah sees that there is a wind associated with the wings. The birds’ wings hover on wind for movement before, but for additional wind to be associated with the wings this shows that God wants the work to be rapidly done, to be done without delay nor hinderances, as such he decided to assist the work by allowing wind to be associated with the wings.
If God wants anything done, nothing can hinder it, for he will personally see to it coming to pass by assisting the work to be rapidly done.
Jamieson-Fausset-Brown in his commentary says the agents for carrying something is usually women. Interestingly, God uses the wicked to wage war against the wicked, they are the means of purging wickedness from the midst of men. Maurer says, two are employed because one wouldn’t be enough to carry the load, remove the wickedness. The wings show velocity, while the lifting shows that the judgment would not be done in the secret.
Matthew Poole says, woman is used to show sinful nation. To punish the wicked person, women again is used to carry out the judgment on them. The wind and wings show how swift the carrying out would be. God’s judgment would not be a kind that would be delayed, it usually comes in rapid succession after rejected warnings.
John Gills says this of this verse that it is a continuation of the earlier vision from the “ephah” seen there and shouldn’t be considered as a new vision. Targum says of the two women as meaning two provinces while Kimchi says it connotes two tribes of Judah and Benjamin carried captive into Babylon. Jarchi thinks they are Babylonians and Chaldeans, while some see them as Jehoiakim and Zedekiah the leaders who brought about their captivity.
Another school of thought considers them to be Ezra and Nehemiah the reformers after they returned from captivity and who work swiftly in bringing to pass what God has laid in their hearts and by this, the “wind” is compared to the “spirit”.
Pliny says where they come from was not ascertained as if they come from the uttermost part of the world.
Maimonides, in his thought says angels are herein implied, but it shows that God is longsuffering and may differ judgment till a time and times, which would make the wicked to harden their hearts while the righteous stumbles because they couldn’t fathom what is happening.
The lifting up of the ephah shows that the sins of sinners would not be hidden but would be revealed for all, angels and men to see, because Jesus also says, there is nothing hidden that would not be revealed. King James Version says,
“Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest.” (Zec. 6:11)
Pre-Prayer Nuggets
Out of the materials brought from Babylon, especially silver and gold were to be used to make crowns. This crown will be put on the prophet. Pulpit commentary says, this may be “a noble crown or the two metal which the crown has been made up of”. Since it is only one person that was mentioned that the crown should be placed on, it is better we don’t imply what is not in the book, that to mean that God speaks surreptitiously to include Zerubbabel.
John Gills commentary in his works says the “crowns” may signify different states of priesthood, talking about what will happen immediately and what would happen in the future, foretelling the priesthood of Jesus, who is said to have on his head many crowns (Rev. 19:12). Jesus is the only one who can have many crowns on his head conveniently, none other can.
Targum while writing this says, “thou shalt make a great crown” which could imply that the crown would be made with mixtures of the materials.
Matthew Henry says, the head of which the crown would place is suggestive of what would happen in the future, Christ coming as the High Priest of the new order, the new gospel who could be touched on whom is the spirit without measure. He will also be our King, that is the meaning of the plural word of the crowns. Thus, anyone who will accept Jesus Christ needs to accept him as the mediator, the High Priest talking to God on his or her behalf and as his King, Lord and ruler.
Barnes uses “the golden at Rome” to explain this “crowns”, saying that Du. Cang. Otto of Frisingen “said that Frederic received 5 crowns; the first at Aix for the kingdom of the Franks; a second at Ratisban for that of Germany; a third at Pavia for the kingdom of Lombardy; the fourth at Rome for the Roman empire from Adrian iv; the fifth of Monza for the kingdom of Italy." In our own memory, Napoleon I. having been crowned in France, was crowned with the iron crown at Monza), or an united crown, has been used in the same meaning, to symbolize as many empires, as there were crowns.” It has been foretold that Messiah when he comes shall occupy both offices: priest and king. (Psa. 110:4; 2:6)

And it is the case of prophet Joseph in the bible, when he was imprisoned, he had on him the cloth of a prisoner, when he was to appear before the king, the bible says, the clothes with which he was erstwhile being clothed were at first removed, and his hair shaven... So, we would say, clothes befitting a palace should be put on me now in Jesus name

It is the believe of scholars that this prophet’s words of oracles came during his old age. Tyre and Sidon were two major cities to the north of Israel. Tyre was important commercial wise, during this time, it was said to be the commercial nerve hub that people living during this time never thought could be overthrown because of several efforts made by the city’s enemies to overthrow her which failed. History has it that Assyrians siege against her lasted five years, but they couldn’t conquer her; Nebuchadnezzar for thirteen years kept waging war against the city, but he and his soldiers failed. Those previous attempts by the then world war powers made people think they cannot be destroyed, but Jehovah through his servant said the city would be overthrown and destroyed and this happened when Alexander waged war against her, under seven months he conquered the city through the implementation of his engineers and military.
We need to learn from this that irrespective of what we possess and how we fortified ourselves and cities, if it has no hand of God in it, it will still fall as Tyre did, because if God does not keep a thing, the thing cannot be effectively kept. (Psa. 127:1-2)

God says his people shall be mighty, (גּבּר גּבּור), gibbôr gibbôr (pronounced as ghib-bore', ghib-bore') which means powerful, warrior, champion, men because they have conquered their enemies, they have fought and overcame them.
These are the people who will fight spiritual and physical enemies, that enemies of self that do not want us to progress, to succeed. They overcome internal enemies because God is with them. Whom God is with will overcome any enemy in the world.
Benson in his commentary says, this was perhaps the victory obtained by the Jews under Maccabees…, “the riders on horses shall be confounded.” (Zec. 10:5d) talks about the Cavalry of Antiochus. Cavalry was the chief strength of the Syro-Grecian army (1 Maccabees 3:39)
Enemies are figuratively used as mire here that instead of them dominating the people of God again, they shall no longer dominate them, but they shall be like nothing, they shall be a waste.

Such is the strategies employed by warriors those days while luring their enemies to arears/environments where they think they have little or no knowledge about. Such is still being used by Football teams and that is why there is "home and away" matches. The warriors of yesteryears would invite warriors of other lands/countries to environments where they think they were weak and wouldn’t be able to fight there.
Our enemies today equally look for our areas of weaknesses, and when they know one or more, they would be attacking us from those areas... (2 Sam. 23:20; 1 Kings 20:28)

We shall enjoy and understand the word here if we continue the read from the first verse. We shall see that the shepherd who ought to be putting the people right were not doing what was expected of them, and instead of doing the needful they were not, but were palliating, placate the people. They were doing this as if the Lord’s eyes were short such that he couldn’t see them, but he sees them and told them that his eyes of mercy have been closed against his people for their persistent wrong doings. Some people believed this happened when the Romans captured the land and led them away as slaves out of their country and land.
When we continue to use unlawful methods to amass wealth or to make progress in life, we should know that there would be consequences later. Some will indulge themselves in unlawful methods yet would be asking for the progress and promotions of the Lord in prayers. Such people should know that God cannot and will not possibly answer such petitions, but if per chance anything crops up through such means we should not expect the answers to have come from God but we should rather think and see it that it is a means of the devil to perpetually keep us in such state of servitude so as to drag us to his kingdom so that we shall be his ambassadors on earth.
Whatever situation we are passing through, however terrible that position and situation may be we should know that God knows about it as he did know about the events that happened to Job, which he has vouched for him that he would maintain his estate, even though he uttered some things during this state, because of the agony he was passing through, but he was quick to come back to God when he saw his error.
You and me may also be passing through terrible times such that we do not know what we can do again, and in such conditions we may be thinking he is not seeing, I want to tell you that he sees and he wants us to be patient and walk with him, not to use unholy, neither unlawful method to meander the stage as at the right time he will come to our aid and deliver us, he is never late in his deliverance, he comes at the right time.
It’s a terrible thing for a person who was once loved to be hated. This is implied here by the prophet that the Lord who once loved them has turned to their enemies and would not arise to deliver them from their enemies.
Nothing could be more devastating and terrible than this, when we know and see someone who can deliver us from problems but instead of him coming to our aids, he decides to look the other way, strengthening and supporting our enemies instead, nothing could be more weaken than this.

Prayer From Zechariah Chapter 12
“The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.” (Zec.12:7)
Pre-Prayer Words
The Lord sees that some are magnifying themselves against tents of Judah because Jerusalem is a place where the Lord has put his name to be, it is the city of the Lord and he says he will deliver the tents of Judah first. It is said that the Greek, Latin and Syriac version of this verse says that “as in the beginning or as in the former days, I will deliver the tents of Judah”.
Often God saves the powerless and those who are molested, the downtrodden before coming to the aid of the powerful ones. When Job was being mocked by his friends, when wrong judgments were being passed on him, when God would talk, he did not talk to his friends, but talks to Job first, and deliver him before asking him to pray for his friends, lest he destroy them in his wrath.
Because the Lord knows that the rich and wealthy people of the world would likely continue to boast if the gospel was to be theirs first, he decides to go to the meek and lowly in heart first so that no one would glory.

Prayer From Zechariah Chapter 13

The mark on the prophet’s hands arose suspicion of those who are seeing him and asked question with that respect. The question was asked because people thought he may have been punished because he was considered a false prophet by his people, since some of his prophesies did not come to pass during their life time, or when they thought they would come to pass.
Jerome says that in the land of the Israel parents inflict punishment on their children such that it would leave marks on the hands of those children and when people see such people or children in the future, they will know that the child has been punished for errors or lies. This was presumed to be the akin question asked the prophet here, but Jerome posited that, the infliction or the wounds on the child’s hands is not that parental in nature.
The wound has been related to Christ’s suffering and punishment. People of Jesus days also assumed him to be false prophet and because he was considered one of the false prophets of their time, he was nailed to the cross which wound he would later show unto his disciples after his resurrection.
Jesus has been punished as one of the false prophets to save and deliver us, we thence need to strongly think about the matter of salvation and be saved.
Sometimes those whom we trust to be there for us eventually turn against us, inflicting injuries on our lives. That is why it is repeatedly said that we shouldn’t trust anyone, but we should rather put our trusts in the Lord.

Prayer From Zechariah Chapter 14
“And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark” (Zec. 14:6)

This is talking about the latter days, and during that time one would be barely be able to separate some events from each other.
An author says of this that this verse shows no perfect day neither night, it is a great mixture such that the day is not complete day, neither is the night complete night.
During this time there is great error all over the world and mostly among the church because truth and error are interwoven, hardly could we decipher holiness from sin now, it is a worrisome situation. And I do not think any other periods depict this verse than this day that we are in. to dispel the intermarriage of lies and truth in the world and gospel now, we need the original word, we need the truth of the gospel, we need Jesus in his fulness in our lives and undertakings.
An author views this like the time when ice and cold cover the surface of the earth such that one can barely see light. The persistence of this would result in death. While another author sees this place as the day of the Lord, the day of judgment, the time when the Lord would unleash his terror on the erring people of the world.
