Translation

Elders’ Books chapter 14 verse 14 says, “birds do not tell their companion that stone is on its way or birds do not tell one another that stone is being thrown at them”

Birds on Tree

Application

The elders’ book is just a way of adding flavor to the Yoruba word.

It is a proverb saying that you are on your own.

The proverb is saying that you must not rely on anyone, do not think people are mindful of you, everyone minds his or her business most of the times and the person whom you rely on do not be surprised that when problem arises that person will find a means of freeing himself while leaving you alone or behind.

Boy Throwing Stone

Sometimes in the world when we are walking in group or doing some things in group we tend to rely on some people, trusting that they will always carry us along when they notice that something wants to happen, but, this proverb is saying that is a misconception on our path that when the so called person notices that problem is coming he will find a route of escape for himself alone leaving you behind.

There were some students in the University of Kankankan, these students were doing tutorials together and every member of their set envies their association, because they seem to be making waves than other groups doing tutorial together in their set.

Students in a Group

Something happened during lecture one day, in which a student abuse the lecturer. The lecturer abused incidentally was the oldest lecturer in that department. When the lecturer told them to produce the candidate who abused him the entire class did not talk, they hid her identity. The lecturer went out in fury. During the departmental meeting this lecturer raised the issue amongst other lecturers and they all resolved to deal with the entire set.

A student that belongs to the tutorial group that is making wave in that set has a lecturer who is close to her parents. This lecturer told her parent of what the lecturers intended to do unto the students and he told his father that he will be sending the father the questions that would be asked so that the student would escape. Her father having known that told their daughter and said unto her that she should keep it to herself. The student kept it to herself and succeeded while about 70% of the class failed and 90% of her group members.

When other members of the tutorial heard of this they were very sad, that she has learnt what would happen and could not carry them along, even if she won’t be giving them questions, she can be telling them areas to focus on to assist them.

They told her of what they have heard about the concluded examination but as expected she denied it, saying it was false allegations and that it was her extra-studies that gave her the breakthrough but nothing else as suggested by her enemies.

Old Lecturer

One day one of them told their colleagues that what she did has shown them that no one could be and should be trusted, when walking together and doing things together, we should always bear it in mind that we are on our own, for if anything happens, the person we rely on will find a route of escape for himself alone leaving others behind, “no bird will tell another bird that hunters will throw stones at them”, they are the ones who should open their eyes and be at alert always.

Who is it that you are trusting? Bible says,

Mic 7:5 “Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.”

Jer 9:4 “Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.”

Jer 9:5 “And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.”
